How to Make a Moshi Monsters Birthday Cake

How to Make a Moshi Monsters Birthday Cake

If you answered yes then your child (or even you) has succumbed to the online charms of the Moshi Monsters and it's hardly surprising as they're so cute! Moshi Monsters are just made to be replicated in cake form I think and they're certainly popular enough for parents to be looking high and low for ways of creating a perfect Moshi Monsters birthday cake for their child.

I am going to look at how to make a Moshi Monsters cake and help you decide what type of Moshi Monsters cake you're going to make from the incredibly easy (buying an edible cake topper) to the more complicated (think Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes) and lots in between. Let's enter into the world of Moshi Monsters......

Easy Peasy Moshi Monsters Birthday Cake

Moshi Monsters Edible Cake Toppers

The easiest way to make a Moshi Monsters cake is simply to buy a ready made slab cake, next cover it with frosting (brought or homemade) and then pop an edible cake topper on top of it.

You simply place the cake topper on the top of the cake and gently smooth it down to make sure there's no air bubbles underneath - how easy is that?

This is an example of a Moshi Monsters cake that has been decorated with an edible cake topper.

With this cake it looks like they have used fondant icing which I think would work really well with an edible topper, but if you haven't used these toppers before it's recommended that the first time you use frosting or royal icing instead - I'm really not sure why, but I followed that advice myself so I'm passing it on to you.

The Moshi Monsters edible topper has been placed in the center of the cake and then they've simply put candles around the outside. They've also managed to get a sleeve for around the cake which I haven't been able to find for sale locally or on Amazon so I'm not sure if it's an edible one or not, but it does tie the cake together nicely.

Now just because you've decided that you like the idea of using an edible topper it doesn't mean that you have to just pop it on the cake with some candles as you can also do some fancy icing as you can see on the topper for sale below.

Alternatively you can have some of the small Moshi Monster toys on top of the cake as well as the topper - how you decorate this birthday cake really is only limited by your imagination.

At the time of writing this is the only Moshi Monster edible topper that I can find online and that's even including checking ebay, but I will keep looking for some more so bookmark this page if you've got time before you'll need the Moshi Monsters cake.

Create a Great Moshi Monsters Cake

Another option when it comes to making a Moshi Monsters birthday cake is to use a cake topper and I've found one that includes not one, but three Moshi Monsters on a stand with a background scene. If you're little Moshi Monster fan loves Furi, Poppet or Katsuma (who was one that my daughter used to talk about a lot) then this is definitely a topper that they'll like.

Of course you'll still need to ice the cake and it would be nice if you could do some type of design on it, but there's lots of options besides the one shown.

Last year, my daughter didn't have a birthday party as we took her away for a weekend including to a dance show that she wanted to see instead. She still wanted to take a birthday cake in to school for her classmates however and I'd brought an edible topper and was just going to buy a cake and decorate it - well when I went to the shop I could only get a two pack of un-iced sponges. I made up her 'official' birthday cake and then when she was at school I thought I'd just decorate the second sponge and let her have another cake as well (also handy in case we had any friends drop in to say happy birthday).

The reason I'm telling you this is because all I did was use white, vanilla frosting on the sponge and then I used large chocolate buttons and pushed them all over the cake like giant polka dots. Everyone thought it looked amazing and it took no time at all. You could use the same technique with smarties or m&ms as well - in fact brighter colors would probably look better if you're combining it with a fun Moshi Monsters cake topper.

Another idea for creating a cool Moshi Monsters birthday cake is just to make or buy a cake and add your favorite frosting or fondant and then buy some toys which your child can play with after wards. You can buy Moshi Monster's ROX which come in a tin, but out of the tin you could use them to decorate a cake and once the cake is eaten they can go back inside their collector's tin and become an extra little gift.

You can also buy Moshling figures which are absolutely perfect for adorning a birthday cake - check out some of the ideas below -

Of course if you're good at cake decorating you can do some Moshi Monsters designs freehand on your cake or even make your own Moshi Monster's sculptures. There really is no limit to what you can do if you just look into the Moshi Monsters world and let your imagination take over!
